Potential roles of vitamin E in age-related changes in skeletal muscle health

E. Chung, H. Mo, S. Wang, et al.

Nutr Res. 2018;49:23-36

Current literature suggests that vitamin E molecules (α-, β-, γ-, δ-tocopherols and the corresponding tocotrienols) with their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities may mitigate age-associated skeletal dysfunction and enhance muscle regeneration, thus attenuating sarcopenia.

Cross-sectional associations of dietary and circulating magnesium with skeletal muscle mass in the EPIC-Norfolk cohort

R.P.G. Hayhoe, M.A.H. Lentjes, A.A. Mulligan, et al.

Clin Nutr. 2018 Jan 30. pii: S0261-5614(18)30015-3. doi: 10.1016/j.clnu.2018.01.014. [Epub ahead of print]

This study demonstrated strong associations between dietary magnesium intake, but not serum magnesium levels, and indices of skeletal muscle mass in a UK population of middle to older-aged adults, highlighting the likely importance of dietary magnesium for optimal muscle health in this population.

Sex differences in the effect of fish-oil supplementation on the adaptive response to resistance exercise training in older people: a randomized controlled trial

M. Da Boit, R. Sibson, S. Sivasubramaniam, et al.

Am J Clin Nutr. 2017;105(1):151-158

Long-chain n-3 PUFA supplementation augments the increases in muscle function and quality in older women but not in older men after resistance exercise training.

Częstość występowania obniżonej siły mięśniowej, ocenianej w oparciu o różne kryteria diagnostyczne, wśród starszych osób zamieszkujących własne gospodarstwa domowe: porównanie dynanometrów do oceny siły ścisku dłoni

M. Kim and S. Shinkai

Geriatr Gerontol Int. 2017;17(11)2089-2095

Badanie porównuje zastosowanie dynanometrów Jamar i Smedley w pomiarze siły ścisku dłoni. Dwa dynamometry zostały wykorzystane do określenia częstości występowania obniżonej siły mięśniowej, ocenianej w oparciu o różne kryteria diagnostyczne, w  dużej populacji osób starszych mieszkających we własnych gospodarstwach domowych.

Resweratrol potęguje u starszych mężczyzn i kobiet indukowane ćwiczeniami fizycznymi adaptacje mięśni szkieletowych na poziomie komórkowym i czynnościowym

S.E. Alway, J.L. McCrory, K. Kearcher, et al.

J Gerontol A Biol Sci Med Sci. 2017;72(12):1595-1606

E.A. Bulut, P. Soysal, A.E. Aydin, et al.

Exp Gerontol. 2017;95:136-140

Celem badania jest ocena zależności pomiędzy niedoborem witaminy B12 i sarkopenią u osób starszych.
